Dr. Mohammed Amin Adam, the Minister for Finance, is leading Ghana’s delegation to the African Development Bank Group (AfDB) Annual Meetings, which commence today in Nairobi, Kenya. The 2024 Annual Meetings, themed “Africa’s Transformation, the African Development Bank Group, and the Reforms of the Global Financial Architecture,” will convene Ministers of Finance and Governors of Central Banks from across Africa, along with representatives from the Bank’s non-African regional shareholders, leaders of major global and regional financial and development institutions, and their technical teams. The discussions will focus on the Bank’s performance, policies, and programs aimed at enhancing its projects on the African continent.

Ghana’s delegation also includes Dr. Alex Ampaabeng, Deputy Minister for Finance, Mrs. Elsie Addo Awadzi, 2nd Deputy Governor of the Bank of Ghana, and officials from the Ministry of Finance, the Bank of Ghana, and the Ghana Infrastructure Investment Fund.

These engagements will encompass the High-Level Presidential Dialogue, the Governors Dialogue, Ghana’s Constituency meeting within the Bank, and a High-Level Policy and Reforms Dialogue.

Bilateral meetings are scheduled with the President of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank, the Kuwaiti Fund, Standard Chartered Bank, ABSA Bank, BADEA, and the OPEC Fund. Dr. Amin Adam will also be a panelist at two high-level plenary knowledge events: “Financing Africa’s Transformation in a Changing Global Financial System” and the African Capacity Building Foundation (ACBF) event on “Leadership Skills Needed to Improve Public Financial Management Performance in Africa.”

Key highlights of the AGM include celebrating the AfDB’s 60th anniversary, launching the African Economic Outlook 2024, and initiating discussions on the roadmap for electing a new President of the Bank to succeed Dr. Akinwumi Adesina, whose second term concludes next year.
